The  S TEAMpla nt is different from many others out there.  At the STEAMplant, we are offering a unique program that provides a chance to experience all five areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.  

BEAM Bugs and Junk Bots

  • BugBots, beetlebots or junkbots are just simple little robots that use basic circuitry to move and act like living creatures. We explore movement and function; culminating in the fabrication of small robots that the kids take home with them.

Kinetic Art (2 and 3 dimensional)

  • Alexander Calder was one of the first artist who are really a maker in disguise.  The founder of the modern mobile and builder of junk sculptures, we give the opportunity to kids to make their own work inspired by Calder.  Participants are given an opportunity to take the ideas of what art is and STEAM it.

Hacking, Making, and Tinkering (manufacturing solutions for everyday problems)

  • The media tells us what we are missing and what we need to buy but it never knows what we really need.  When our imagination becomes a reality and we are able to solve our own problems, we take control away from the media and no longer be mindless consumer. Using open source coding and a micro-controller card, participants develop their skills as coders and engineers learning how to take control of technology.

Open-Source Coding (Scratch, Python, and Arduino) *requires makers to bring their own devices

  • Want to learn how to code? Create video games? Dreaming of a device that you think you can’t make. We explore the possibilities of making our tech dreams come true.  This program can be tailored to all skill levels.

Mathagami

  • Origami and mathematics go "hand-in-hand"  The fear of Math is dispelled by showing the beauty of what can be folded and the geometry explained. 

LEGO® engineering program (from bricks to sensors)

  • We build, animate and then take over the brick world.  Kids get a chance to build with Lego without an instruction manual. Through a series of challenges kids get to improve their imagination and ingenuity.
